Unbeaten League Run Ends in Leicester Mudbath

Looking back tonight’s 1-0 defeat at Leicester City seemed like an all-too-familiar story which we all remember.

  • Palace playing below their best against Leicester City – check.
  • Despite a poor performance, Palace seem to hold on with relative ease – check.
  • In the dying moments a Leicester player scores the winner off their shin – check.

Thankfully for those of us who still have scars from the 1996 play-off final this was just a league game, and the winner was scored by Barry Hayles, not Steve Claridge. Still not a happy night though.

Clinton Salvages a Point

When you go behind three minutes from time you don’t expect to get something from the game. Thankfully though Clinton Morrison’s equaliser – his 99th goal for Palace – managed to get us a 2-2 draw against Leicester City today. Stuart Green had previously given us a first-half lead.

I don’t know about anyone else, but after the great result on the opening day of the season I feel somewhat deflated about the season ahead. I was hoping the cup result against Bristol Rovers would be just a blip, but now I’m not sure what this season will bring. Personally I’m looking forward to next week’s televised clash with Ipswich Town to see how we look first-hand.

2007/08 Fixture List released

The Championship fixtures for the 2007/08 season were released today. Palace highlights include:

First game: @ Southampton, Saturday 11th August.
First home game: Leicester City, Saturday 18th August.
Oops, they’re playing us again (again!): Charlton, Saturday 1st September.
Dowie’s return: Coventry City, Tuesday 18th September.
Final day: Burnley, Sunday 4th May (kick-off 3pm).

All Saturday fixtures are currently set for 3pm kick-offs, midweek games are currently shown as 7.45pm kick-offs.

Burnley on the last day is usually a good omen. Let’s hope that run continues, however unlikely it may currently seem.
